So slug down a coffee, munch on some breakfast and head down to Dover and across the Channel to France. On into Belgium, and towards scores of turning windmills against vast expanses of sky we arrive in Holland and friendly Amsterdam. Here we enjoy a welcome drink with fellow passengers before a wonderful introduction to the city this evening on an included canal cruise in a glass–topped boat for a dinner of Indonesian specialties in a floating restaurant. (Continental breakfast/ Restaurant dinner in Amsterdam) | | Day 4 | Amsterdam | Orientation of the city includes Dam Square, the Tower of Tears and a diamond–cutting factory, set against a backdrop of canals, barges and bikes! Then you are free to explore – the museums, the 'brown' bars and the antique shops. Later maybe experience more of Amsterdam's exciting nightlife, we'll provide late–night transportation to take you back to your hotel. (Continental breakfast) | | Day 5 | Rhineland | We travel into Germany to the River Rhine and to Boppard. Here we embark on a scenic Rhine cruise. Perhaps sip on a Riesling, as we sail past ancient castles perched on vine–terraced hillsides. Admire the statue of Lorelei, the nymph who, according to legend, would lure young men to their death! Tonight, enjoy dinner in a local tavern and perhaps try some of that great German beer! (Continental breakfast/ Restaurant dinner in Rhineland) | | Day 6 | Munich | First to the 'Student Prince' city of Heidelberg, where we admire the Castle and have time to shop in the pedestrian quarter. Then on via Stuttgart and through the Swabian Hills to Bavaria's lively capital, Munich. Here orientation shows us the Marienplatz, Olympic Stadium and of course the famous Hofbräuhaus, the world's most famous beer hall...which you may wish to visit later this evening! (Continental breakfast) | | Day 7 | Venice | Our first stop this morning is Innsbruck in the Austrian Tyrol where we see the Golden Roof and Hofburg Palace. (Continental breakfast/ Restaurant dinner in Rome) | | Day 10 | Rome | Our morning sightseeing tour with a local guide shows us Nero's Colosseum, the Forum and St. Peter's Basilica, in the Vatican. The balance of the day is free to either wander the streets of the medieval city or to wonder at Michelangelo's paintings on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel! Tonight, fettuccini? Spaghetti? Tagliatelli? – whatever you choose…wash it down with some of the local Frascati – and do as the Romans do! (Continental breakfast) | | Day 11 | Florence | After breakfast, it's off the highway as we drive through hilly fields of sunflowers to medieval Siena – where banking was invented! More famous today for its excellent cuisine and Palio horse race. Time to shop for ceramics and admire the perfect architecture in the Piazza del Campo. Then it's only a short drive to Florence with its abundance of Renaissance Art, up–to–the–minute fashions and delicious cuisine! Florence is full of full nightlife, so tonight 'dance the night away' in one of the 'state–of–the–art' nightclubs. (Continental breakfast) | | Day 12 | Florence | The only way to really visit this city is with a local guide on foot! Highlights are the marble Duomo, Piazza Signoria with its many sculptures and of course the Basilica of Santa Croce, where so many of Italy's heroes are buried. Today the area around the Basilica is a centre for high quality leather goods and gold jewellery, so it's a great place for shopping! This evening, we'll enjoy some of that fine food at a pizza dinner with wine in one of the city's favorite trattorias. This evening, why not join in the fun of a Swiss Folklore show? (Continental breakfast) | | Day 14 | Lucerne | Today see the Lion Monument and Chapel Bridge on our orientation tour. Then plenty of time for shopping for chocolates, clocks, watches, woodcarvings and more! (Continental breakfast/ Dinner) | | Day 15 | Paris | Today we're heading for the 'Grand Finale' as we enter France.
